The Relationship with the Knowledge, Attitude and Nursing practice of the Nursing Personnel in Long Term Care Facilities

Abstract

|
Purpose: This study was to analyze the relationship among the nursing personnels’level of knowledge, attitude and nursing practice in long term care facilities. Method: The data had been collected from the 194 nursing personnels working at three long term care facilities in A city and the measurement of correlations among the related parameters or factors such as frequency, percentage, average, standard deviation, t-test, One-way ANOVA, Scheffe’s test or pearson correlation were acquired by using SPSS Win 14.0 program. Result: There were statistically significant differences in the degree of the knowledge according to the nursing personnels’age, marital status, educational background, experience of cohabitation with the elderly, and experience of volunteer work. There were statistically meaningful differences in the degree of the attitude according to the nursing personnels’age, religion, educational background, position, career of elderly care, and experience of volunteer work. There were statistically significant differences in the degree of the nursing practice according to the nursing personnels’age, marital status, educational background, position, career of elderly care, and courses in acquiring the knowledge of elderly care. As a result of analyzing the relations among the nursing personnel’s level of knowledge, attitude and nursing practice of the elderly, there were significantly positive correlations between the subject’s knowledge and nursing practice of the elderly. Conclusion: Therefore, the development of educational program available for enhancing geriatric nursing practice is needed.
